Who were vikings?

Vikings came form Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Most vikings were farmers, but they also hunted. People do not usually think of Vikings in this way but they were also great metal workers and made elaborate weapons. The also made awesome necklaces and carved beautiful objects. they were great ship builders and sailors too.
When a viking died they did have funerals, If they were warriors they were barred in their ships. I like the fact of being barred in a big ship with my companions. Then the vikings  believed that they descended to a warrior haven and fought all day and feasted all night. In the haven they were cared for by beautiful maidens. That haven sounds good to me.

Who were Viking raider, how did they fight and why?

Vikings went and raided many places in the eastern hemisphere, they invaded Britain, Ireland, France, and Italy. The vikings invaded because they did not have enough land for everyone to farm so they had to raid and settle for vikings to have jobs. I think they just needed more jobs so they don't have to go take others land an have to make raiding an occupation. The vikings tried to settle in America, but the natives kicked attacked their homes so they left.
Many vikings went and raided, but the best warriors were the berserkers. The berserkers were highly trained in hand to hand fights and with weapons. They would fight in a trance or some other form of self motivation. Then at the end of a battle they would pass out from out put of Adrenalin (weird).

How did Viking goverment work?

In each viking community was ruled by a council of freemen and noblemen, I never thought about vikings having a fair government. They made all major decisions that effected  town life. They made laws, held trials, settled fights between rival families and decided when to go to war. this council was called the Althing.
everyone was subject to the Althing's rules. Even nobles chiefs and lords. That is why I think the Vikings had a fair government.
Each longhouse were ruled by a chief and the people who worked for him. Every viking lived in a longhouse. The people there farmed and took care of cattle for the chief. I would not like to live in the same house with all the other people. Also I would not wont to do the chiefs chores for him.

What was the vikings mode of transportation and why was it.

The vikings had cogs or trade ships and they had longships. The longships were long and narrow with many small rooms for tools and weapons. They could not only run before the wind but could run across the wind better than most ships of the time. The vikings longships were truly the reason to their success. They needed the longships because vikings had to get to the place they were raiding and then get away after the raid before the the other army got there.
The longest longship found was the long dragon. It was 140 feet long (now we know they called them longships). The vikings claim that there was one twice that size. The longships were not only sea worthy but could go in shallow waters. Docks were also unecessary the vikings just dragged them up on the shore, which i think would be relatively hard.
